ROADMAP 2025
PEOPLE, PROCESS, PLACES
The current era is marked by wars, pandemics, supply and energy shortages, and widespread inflation. The challenge lies in finding the right path and the right formulas between overcoming acute crises and strategic future planning for the economy and society. In view of the necessary, far-reaching changes, many are faced with excessive demands. Small and medium-sized enterprises are under pressure and private households are suffering from rising prices.
What should a regulatory and economic policy framework look like to counteract this? The question of the people, processes, and structural infrastructures needed to accelerate the transformation process is coming to the fore. In 2025, we will continue our dialogue initiative, focusing on interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral topics in the areas of people, processes, and places. Now is the time to ask the crucial questions and work together to find answers for a sustainable and future-oriented future.
The challenge of the future will continue to be creating a work and corporate culture that puts people first, despite rapid technological change. At a time when artificial intelligence, automation, and data-driven decisions are having an ever-greater impact on our working lives, companies must find ways to retain existing employees and attract new talent. This is not just about expertise, but also about the ability to combine sustainability thinking, creative problem solving, and technological know-how. But how can people remain not only relevant, but also actively creative? And what organizational and structural conditions need to be created to achieve this?
In an increasingly globalized economy, European companies face the challenge of making their value and supply chains more resilient. A key factor in increasing resilience lies in redesigning re- and nearshoring strategies that aim to reduce dependence on distant suppliers without completely abandoning the benefits of globalization. This requires a balanced approach that harmonizes local and international supply sources and reduces bottlenecks.
Production sites in Europe are at a turning point: they must evolve from their previous role as export drivers to become pioneers of a digitized, automated, and sustainable industry. However, they are struggling with obstacles such as excessive bureaucracy and often outdated infrastructure. It is time to actively shape change and redefine Europe as a global center for smart production—through investments in digital infrastructure, innovation-friendly legislation, and the consistent use of AI and automation. This is the only way to reconcile sustainability and competitiveness.
